Maimy Santiago
Derby name origin: I strongly identify with the character of Amy Santiago on Brooklyn 99.
When did you join roller derby? 2010
What brought you to Free State? I was with DCRG for several years, and had moved a little too far to make that drive. Free State wasn't much closer, but it was closer, and it turned out to be the perfect place for me.
How did you find Free State? A couple friends from my old league suggested I might fit in here.
Which leagues/teams are you affiliated with? (e.g. Suzies, Villains, Team Maryland, DCRG, CCRG, etc)
Goth Flamingo fo' life! Team Zebra-mingo.
Are you a member of any committees or have off-skates roles? NSO
Do you have a skating/athletic background? Not remotely. I skated a little as a kid, but I was not very interested in athletics at all.
Likes : Intersectional feminism, rubbing cat tummies, reading and watching genre fiction.
Dislikes: Bigotry, crickets, and the feeling you get when you realize 2 minutes from your destination that you left something really important at home.
What is your Non-Derby-Related job? I run my own one-woman landscaping company!
Pre-Bout ritual: Try to get up in time to eat and put on fun bout day makeup, listen to music that pumps me up on the way to the venue.
Signature move: Waving skaters to the correct seat in the penalty box.
Roller Derby Hero: Treble Maker, Frightmare.
Motivational Quote: Life is beautiful and life is stupid.
